Welcome to The Maths Department at The Lord Silkin School

An Exceptionally Inclusive School

The maths team are

  • Mr A Chadwick (Assistant Headteacher, in charge of maths)
  • Mr G Platts (Second in Maths)
  • Mrs A Done (Maths Teacher)
  • Mr J Fozao (Maths Teacher)
  • Mrs D Standley (Maths Teacher and Head of House)
  • Mr T Goddard (Maths Teacher and Deputy Headteacher)

In the Maths Team, We Believe:

Every Child Matters and Every Child Counts

We aim to make lessons stimulating, enjoyable, fun and relevant, whilst covering the National Curriculum for Mathematics.

We aim to ensure that we build on the Mathematical knowledge, skills and understanding that children bring with them from Primary school.

Every child has access to a classwork book and a homework practice book.

Every child is given the opportunity to use ICT in lessons

Every child is given a login to www.mymaths.co.uk online revision help.

At the end of Key Stage 3 (Year 9) we have good results at levels 5 and 6. These will lead to good GCSE grades.

At GCSE we offer a Modular examination.

We have high expectations of our students and so aim to enter everyone for GSCE Maths, and additional mathematics qualfications such as BTEC in Mathematical Application, Additional Maths GCSE or Functional Maths (Depending on ability level)

The Lord Silkin School

A Child has only one chance and we must make it count w

Key Stage 4 Mathematics (GCSE OCR)

From September 2008 students in Key Stage 4 will be prepared for the OCR Modualr Mathematics at either Foundation or Higher tier.

Students sit three module papers, the best two are chosen for certification, and these count for a total of 50% of the final examination grade.

These module examinations are taken in January and June of their Year 10 course, and in January in Year 11. There is no longer any coursework in Maths, so it is extremely important that students prepare thoroughly for their examinations.

The Terminal papers are held in June of Year 11, although early entry maybe considered if this maximises the best resutls for the student.

We appreciate the support given by parents in the work we do to achieve their potential. This support can be given by encouraging additional work at home, checking that homework is completed, encouraging students to seek additional help from their teacher where appropriate, and by allowing access to the internet, where they can iuse www.mymaths.co.uk to both help with their work and revise.
