All parents want their child to be healthy

  • Parents are excited when their child takes its first steps and later develops other skills like running and jumping.
  • Today, however, many young people spend an increasing amount of time watching television.
  • They are less physically active than children 15-20 years ago.
  • Eating habits, smoking and lack of exercise have placed Northern Ireland at the top of the ‘coronary heart disease league’.
  • It is most important that young people while at school and at home are encouraged to take part in vigorous activity on a regular basis.  Good health should not be taken for granted.

Physical Education can help to develop

  • a sense of enjoyment¨
  • physical well being¨
  • skilful movements¨
  •  a healthy approach to exercise¨
  • poise and self-confidence
  • an ability to cope with stress at school, at home and at work and  an ability to work with others
